Dr. Tarabin Will Protect Your Smile

Dr. Tarabin will typically use a dental filling to restore a tooth that’s damaged by decay. But sometimes the decay is so extensive that a regular filling isn’t sufficient to restore the tooth. In these cases, we may decide to restore your smile using an onlay or an inlay, which are customized fillings made from a composite material.

Unlike traditional fillings, onlays and inlays are indirect restorations. That means they’re created before they’re applied to the affected area. Then they’re attached to your tooth using dental adhesive.

Onlays and inlays are custom-made to look just like one of your own teeth, making them almost impossible to detect. Plus, they’re so durable they can last up to thirty years.

Onlays and inlays are much stronger than regular fillings. They’re the perfect solution when a filling isn’t large enough to treat your tooth but a full dental crown isn’t quite necessary either. Inlays are frequently used as an alternative to conventional fillings, while onlays can be a good alternative to crowns because they allow us to preserve a greater portion of your natural tooth structure.

When It’s Time to Seek Treatment

Onlays and inlays can be used to treat a variety of issues, including:

  • Broken or cracked teeth.
  • Fractured fillings.
  • Decayed teeth.
  • To protect a tooth following root canal therapy.
  • Cosmetic enhancement.
